I try to keep an open mind when it comes to things
like the paranormal. Regardless if you agree or disagree with the phenomena,
it does exist. It has existed for thousands of years having been recorded in
ancient scriptures. Only in recent times has our technology increased to a
point where affordable electronics are available for novice
skeptics such as myself to investigate and record these events. Without
any hard data, all you will have is another ghost story. Having hard data
makes it a really good ghost story!
One of my favorite places to visit is St. Augustine, Florida. St. Augustine is the oldest settlement in the United States, older than Jamestown or Roanoke. The lighthouse at St. Augustine is said to be haunted. What "haunted" actually means I am not sure of. Do souls of dead people stuck here on earth hang out there? Do ghostly apparitions moan and drag chains through the stairwells? Why does this phenomena exist and why are ghost sightings so widely popular in not only our culture but ancient cultures as well. It crosses through all religious boundaries, societies, and races. I think "ghost" are probably the most misunderstood phenomena which occurs in human culture. This along side alien abductions and UFO sightings. Perhaps one day we will understand but in my lifetime it remains a mystery. The St. Augustine Lighthouse was built in 1874. There have been numerous tragic events which occurred at the lighthouse since it was constructed. Most notable is the death of a light keeper's daughters, 2 little girls and a friend who were killed when the tram car they were playing in rolled down the hill and crashed killing all three. Many relate this event to the ghostly occurrences which take place at the lighthouse. The day after Christmas I decided to go to St. Augustine Lighthouse to visit. They offer an after hours Dark of the Moon tour which I would recommend to anyone. This was my third trip there, once last year, and another in 1972 on vacation. For this trip I was armed with an infrared digital high resolution camera, additional IR lighting, a digital voice recorder, and a borrowed EMF meter. I was fortunate to meet up with a paranormal investigator, Chase Croft, PARA out of Jupiter, FL and together we spent two hours in a very dark lighthouse listening and recording all that was happening. The clips below are sniplets of the two hour video which I shot with one camera. You might think with all the noise there were many people in this lighthouse but for the most part of the two hour endeavor there was only myself and Chase. There's more than what I've presented here but it runs into periods of actual people coming into the building and I wanted to keep it separated. I'd have to experience this a few more times before I could honestly say I believe in ghosts. I'm not sure if it's souls of the dead. It may be some sort of electrically charged phenomena which we just do not understand. Whatever the case, being inside this lighthouse was truly a bizarre and entertaining experience. |

Dec 26, 2008 - VIDEO/AUDIO Quick Flash Clip response to Hello. While trying to get a response from the ghost, a brief flash across the screen appears. Two hours of video was shot and the anomaly did not re-occur. We had been trying to entice the ghost to communicate through flashes but did not see the flashing on the camera until it was reviewed. |

EVP's and Disembodied Voices At one point Chase told me someone was breathing in his ear and asked me if I was hearing it too. Up until this point I had not. Shortly afterwards and real loud, someone exhaled in my right ear. It was a female sounding breath. For some reason the audio did not show up on the digital cam I was holding, but showed up on my digital voice recorder which I had in my shirt pocket. Spooky. Clip response of me asking the ghost to turn off the flashlight. It's barley audible but you can hear a low hum in response to my question. we ask if anyone is in here After hearing some ghostly chatter and seeing some flashing lights, I wish the ghost Merry Christmas and it appears he returns the pleasantry. Listen closely. |

Hey, SHHHhhhhhh! This clip is the most bizarre DVP I ever heard. There's no one in the lighthouse but myself and Chase. The ghost tells us to "shush". This happened three separate times during the two hour event. You can tell later in the video when people do come into the lighthouse the difference clearly. I have a hard time believing it myself since it was so clear. In this event the ghost even says "Hi". Just prior to hearing this, we both started getting high EMF spikes on our meters. |

Shhhh...again Here's a second Shhhhh...again, no one in the lighthouse except me and Chase. This one has some faint chatter to what appears to be between a man and woman just prior to the Shhhhh but I am unable to make out what they are saying. |

Small Orb or Manifestation I kept seeing movement in this clip but could not focus in on it. I had to increase the brightness to see and it appears to be a small orb which emanates from the wall and disappears under the stairs very quickly. But the more I look at it, it could be a manifestation. There's allot of centralized movement on the bottom of the stairs that the camera was trying to auto focus on. The camera is positioned on a stair looking up so what you are seeing is the bottom side of the stairs above. Again, we are in total darkness. It was pitch black and what you do see is a result of the IR camera and IR lighting I was using. Another Small Orb
